When life throws challenges our way, only a few rise to face them with unwavering courage, resilience, and faith. Rajeshwari Vijayakumar is one such inspiring individual who has turned adversity into strength, proving that determination knows no bounds. Vayah Vikas presents Rajeshwari Vijayakumar as a Timeless Trailblazer.

Early Life and Family

Born and raised in Chennai, Rajeshwari completed her schooling and graduated in the city. Her early life was, as she describes, "normal and fulfilling." At the age of 24, she married and moved to Delhi, where her husband was based. Before marriage, she had already begun her professional journey with the Indian Overseas Bank, where she later secured a transfer to Delhi post-marriage.

Rajeshwari and her husband have a son, who is now 37 years old, married, and a father to a beautiful one-year-old granddaughter. Family has always been a cornerstone of her life, providing support and joy through the years.

Facing the Big C

Life took an unexpected turn when Rajeshwari was diagnosed with cancer. As she recounts, "We always think serious illnesses happen to others. Never to us." However, two years after relocating to Bangalore from Delhi, she began experiencing unexplainable fatigue and low energy levels. Despite this, she continued with her passions—singing, dancing, and learning Sanskrit, a language she had taken up four years prior. Living in a senior citizens' community, she remained actively involved in organizing various cultural programs.

While her energy levels were depleting, she initially dismissed it. "I had a small lump on my breast, something I had experienced twice before. Those had turned out to be sebaceous cysts, which were resolved with medication. So this time, I assumed it was the same." However, over time, she noticed significant differences from her previous cysts.

Still, like many women, she delayed seeking medical attention. "Women tend to take their health lightly. But something inside me, an inner voice, kept pushing me to see a doctor. That voice was my saving grace."

When she finally went for a check-up, even before the biopsy results were out, she had a strong intuition that the results wouldn’t be favorable. "I was praying it wouldn’t be anything serious, but deep down, I knew something was wrong. And it turned out to be cancer."

The Journey Through Treatment

While the initial news was a shock, Rajeshwari’s resilience shone through. "The word 'cancer' itself is daunting, but I had already prepared myself mentally. There were moments of low feelings, but my long practice of meditation helped me sail through. Meditation didn’t just help me—it carried me through. It transformed me from an anxious, overthinking person into someone much more accepting and peaceful."

Acceptance, she emphasizes, was the key to her strength. "One should never ask, 'Why me?' Acceptance allows us to move forward with a positive outlook. The sooner we accept, the better we can focus on finding solutions."

Her family played a significant role in her healing journey. "My husband and son reacted with calmness. There was no overreaction or melodrama. They accepted it the way I did and supported me in every step. Even my extended family respected my decision when I chose not to talk to anyone about it initially."

Within ten days of her diagnosis, she underwent surgery. "I wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible. And in every step, I felt God’s presence guiding me."

One of her biggest fears was chemotherapy. "I had heard so much about its side effects, and I was scared. But by God’s grace, my doctor told me I didn’t need chemotherapy. I consider myself very lucky."

Life After Cancer

It has been two and a half months since her surgery, and while her energy levels are still recovering, Rajeshwari is optimistic. "Life has changed, but I am taking it one day at a time. Healing takes time, and I am confident I will regain my strength."

She credits meditation, prayer, and a positive mindset for helping her navigate this journey. "Prayer helps in maintaining balance. Acceptance, faith, and inner strength are crucial in facing any adversity."

Inspiration for Others

Rajeshwari’s story is a testament to resilience and the power of a positive mindset. Her message to others facing challenges is simple yet profound: "Accept what comes your way, but never lose hope. Keep moving forward with faith, and you will find the strength to overcome anything."
