Khel Diwas was celebrated by senior citizens of Mantri Residency on March 21, 2023, with a lot of enthusiasm. There were 14 participants who were eager to take part in the games, some of them in both chess and carrom! Some seniors, entering into the spirit of the games, were keen to compete in the carrom tournament, even though they had never played before!
Mr T K Chandrashekhar, (President, Mantri Residency Association) inaugurated Khel Diwas by cutting a ribbon, after which the arbitrator acquainted the participants with the rules of the competition. As the games progressed, there was intense competition and everyone wanted to win, cheered on by the audience!
After three rounds of single and doubles - men and women's carrom, and chess the winners were declared by the referee, Mr R M Shankara, a two-time World Carrom Champion from Karnataka.
All competitors were given a certificate of participation and the winners were awarded medals. It was an intensely satisfying day for both the senior citizen competitors and the organisers. Fun was had by all!
